Biography
Mark Dennett joined the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in 1974 and works primarily in the field of microbial ecology. During the past 12 years, he has been involved in many projects in the Southern Ocean. This past year Mark returned to the Amundsen Sea to examine protistan diversity within the sea ice and the water column using both traditional microscopy and an underwater video microscope (a video plankton recorder). Mark began working in the field of autonomous underwater vehicle exploration this past year with the launch of the CATALYST Program.
From Mark:
I always enjoy going to sea although I miss my family and many times trips seem to happen over important holidays or family events. Working at WHOI and especially within the REMUS group provides opportunities to travel and work in many locations around the world. Each cruise is different with new challenges and the opportunity to work with people from other institutions toward a common goal.
